Ironbridge Gorge Industrial Heritage
Ironbridge is situated within a dramatic gorge, on a beautiful stretch of the River Severn, in the English county of Shropshire. It is dominated by the famous Iron Bridge built by Abraham Darby III. Opened in 1779, it is the world’s first cast-iron bridge.
Within the same gorge, Darby’s grandfather, and then his father, perfected the art of smelting iron using coke to dramatically reduce the manufacturing cost. Producing iron the Darby way was to prove pivotal during the Industrial Revolution that followed.
For Groups and individual travellers who are interested in industrial heritage, a visit to Ironbridge and the surrounding area is not to be missed.
Our ‘Ironbridge Gorge Industrial Heritage’ Tour includes visits to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum, Blist Hill Victorian Town, Jackfield Tile and Coalport China Museums. Also included is a tour of the ancient town of Much Wenlock birthplace of Dr William Penny Brookes who inspired the foundation of the Modern Olympic Movement.
Like all our tour packages, it can be specially tailored to meet your specific needs and budgetary requirements.
